Readiness Assessment Test

I'd like to investigate the use of Readiness Assessment Tests for use in the future teaching of this course. On Friday, October 22, 1999, you will all complete a true/false and multiple choice Readiness Assessment Test twice on the material covered in Units C1 and C2. There will be between 10 and 15 questions.

The test will be administered as follows:

  1. You will each be given 20 minutes to take the test once as an individual.
  2. The individual tests will be collected.
  3. You will then break up into the group of 6 students to which you were assigned, and will retake the test as a group.
  4. After 20 minutes, I will collect the group tests.
  5. I will score the group tests, and return them to your group. The group will be permitted to appeal, in writing, any question on the group test. Appeals will either be granted or denied.

Your motivation for studying for this "RAT" is twofold:

  1. In future classes, I will only cover material not well understood by the class. That is, this may be your only opportunity to learn the material in class (and it will appear on the final exam).
  2. You may increase your score on the first midterm exam by as much as 10 points.

Scoring will be as follows:

  1. You will receive an individual score out of 10 points and a group score out of 10 points. (So, if you get a 80% on the individual test and a 93% on your group test, your individual score will be an 8.0 and your group score will be a 9.3.)
  2. Your final score, which again will be added to your midterm exam #1, will be determined by weighting your individual score by 0.70 and your group score by 0.30. That is your score, will be 0.70I*0.30G, where I is your individual score and G is your group score.
