STAT 100, Section 004: Statistical Concepts and Reasoning

This course is designed to introduce students to the art and science of decision-making in the presence of uncertainty. In taking this course, students will develop an understanding of the reasoning by which findings from sample data can be extended to larger, more general populations. Students will also learn how to evaluate critically the results of studies reported in the popular media and scientific press. Examples and applications from a variety of fields will be emphasized.

   Tue, Dec. 15: The final grades for the course are now on ANGEL; also, letter grades have been uploaded to eLion.
   Wed, Dec. 9: There will be office hours tomorrow, Thursday,Dec. 10 from 8 to 10am in 326 Thomas.
   Wed, Dec. 9: Homework #8 is the last homework assignment of the semester. It is due in class on Friday, Dec. 11.
   Wed, Dec. 9: Sample final exam questions are available on the final exam information web page.
   Wed, Dec. 9: You have until Friday at 3:30 to take advantage of a chance to boost your score for midterm #3. Do this by logging into ANGEL and looking for the midterm #3 opportunity for extra points.
   Fri, Dec. 4: Extra credit for next Wednesday: Click here to take a post-test. You get from 2 to 4 extra credit points just for completing this test.
   Fri, Dec. 4: The SRTE (student rating of teaching effectiveness) is now open and online. Please take time to register your opinions about this course.
   Mon, Nov. 30: Homework assignment #7 now has solutions posted.
   Wed, Nov. 18: There are now sample questions, along with a list of learning objectives, for Exam #3. Also an extra credit opportunity.
   Fri, Nov. 13: There will be an office hour today after class until about 5pm for anyone with questions

   Fri, Oct. 30: The final exam will take place Monday, December 14 in 108 Chambers from 12:20 to 2:10pm.
   Mon, Oct. 26: I'll hold office hours after class today in 326 Thomas for anyone who would like to discuss questions leading up to Wednesday's exam #2.
   Fri, Oct. 23: There is a new homework assignment. It's due on Wednesday, Oct. 28.
   Fri, Oct. 23: Anyone wishing to pick up exam #1 or discuss exam #2 is welcome to come to 326 Thomas after class today. We could arrange the same on Monday if it would help.

   Wed, Sept. 30: NO CLASS THIS FRIDAY (Oct. 2).
   Wed, Sept. 30: Midterm Exam #1 grades have been released. Check your email and also ANGEL: Your score on ANGEL will be one point higher (and graded out of 48 instead of 47).
   Wed, Sept. 30: Homework #4 (due Oct. 7): Login to ANGEL and take the STAT 100 anonymous survey.
   Fri, Sept. 18: There is a new homework assignment. It's due on Monday, Sept. 21.
   Wed, Sept. 16: There are now sample questions, along with a list of learning objectives, for Exam #1. Also an extra credit opportunity.
   Mon, Sept. 14: Exam #1 is coming up in less than two weeks. Please check the explanation of the exam rules.
   Mon, Sept. 14: I recently synchronized the clickers with your names again. Please verify that if you have used a clicker on a quiz that you got credit for it.
   Fri, Sept. 4: I solved my synchronization program, so the quiz grades (and the HW grade) are posted now on ANGEL. Please check yours to make sure there are no mistakes. Today is the last day for the "grace period" if you forget your clicker.
   Fri, Sept. 4: Homework #2 is due at the start of class next Wednesday, Sept. 9.
   Wed, Sept. 2: I'm having a hard time with the synchronization program to match your clickers with your names. Please bear with me, and know that no grades will be lost!
   Mon, Aug. 31: Additional help outside of class is available at the Shared Office Hours, which provide walk-in statistics help in 220D Boucke in the afternoons and evenings, Mondays through Thursdays. Check the schedule for exact times.
